The first solo show to be installed at N/A Gallery is "Purse" by Shanti Hietkamp.
Drawing inspiration through the use of Sandro Botticelli’s depiction of Venus, these acrylic paintings on cut wood panels examine human relationships through a feminist perspective. Using pattern, mirrored reflection, and repetition to establish narrative between the two figures, the work provides a sense of intimacy. Large scale roses mirroring each other creates a fantastical installation, with bold colours and strong use of line. The title Purse, is both based in verb and noun, adapted from Renaissance slang. Purse formed through Hietkamp’s desire to experiment with shaped supports and love of woodworking, aiming to merge a graphic style with historical imagery.
