SHOWING JUNE 6 TO JUNE 20 2022
"This series is an abstract interpretation of the experience of holding your breath underwater, opening your eyes, and watching your hair float around you. This is the first time these works have been shown since I started them in the Spring of 2014. I wanted to expand on my initial experimentation with moving ink with sputum across paper using air compressors, blowing air through straws, or with an air pump. How I play with the opacity of the ink is much like the thickness of my hair while I brush it underwater, ending in soft curls and moving in all directions. I wanted to see what additional forms I could create by manipulating the ink to move in intended and unintended ways."
ABOUT THE ARTIST
"I work full-time as a biologist and on my art in my spare time. I mix my biological interests with my artistic passions while using a variety of materials. Currently, I have a sculpture with The Elora Sculpture Project set up in Fergus made of old bicycle tires and steel. I enjoy using found materials to create visually intriguing works of art that related to ongoing issues or stand on their own. This series is one of the rare instances I work directly on paper but still using unconventional techniques."
